Already looking forward to the big feast, but afraid you're body will end up (again) in a food coma?
Follow those few tips that we assembled to survive Thanksgiving without a food coma & feel good throughout the holidays (your body will celebrate a special thanksgiving just for you!)
1. PLAN & TAKE A POST-MEAL WALK
Moving your body in combination with the fresh air will boost your metabolism and make you feel much better after indulging in the big feast.
Tip: Ask family members & friends to join you and spend some quality time together and enjoy the beautiful fall weather!
2. STICK TO HEALTHY PORTIONS
It's a holiday, so you still want to enjoy all the amazing food that comes to the table. The secret lays in portion control - as long as you don't over-fill your plate with super buttery mashed potatoes and gravy, you can enjoy everything, just in moderation.
The more colorful your plate, the better.
You don't need to fill up your plate with everything that is on the table - just focus on the food that is thanksgiving-specific and that you cannot have year round. Make smart choices, i.e. by choosing fruit or pumpkin pie over chocolate or pecan pie. And if you don't eat everything today: there will certainly be leftovers the next day in which you can indulge.
3. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER - before, during & after
Not only does the mind ofter interpret thirst as hunger, but drinking a lot of water will also help your stomach stay full and avoid additional calories from soft drinks.
Drinking a lot of water will also help your skin body hydrated and your skin looking good.
Positive side effect: you will run often to the restrooms which keeps your body moving!
Tip: Drinking a herbal tea half an hour after meal will help your digestive system and make your stomach feel better! (you can drink a tea when you come back from your walk!)
4. DON'T SKIP ANY MEALS OF THE DAY
Don't forget to eat or skip any meals before the big feast. If you are starving before eating you will more likely overeat. Take a small but satisfying breakfast to get your metabolism going.
5. FOCUS ON FRIENDS + FAMILY, NOT THE MEAL
Thanksgiving should not (only) be about the amazing food that you will be eating, but about your friends and family. Rather than focusing and think about all the great food choices, focus on quality time & great conversation with friends & family members that you haven't seen for a while!
6. SCHEDULE A FITNESS DATE THE NEXT MORNING
This will help you feeling good the morning after and get you right back into your routine! Chose a workout you love and that challenges you at the same time, and with someone you won't leave hanging under any circumstances.
