We are excited to announce that Amy Ishimine joined our Llumier Wellness Team. Read on to learn more about Amy's wonderful personality and how she chose to become an Aesthetician.
Amy found her calling when attending the Academy for Salon Professionals in Santa Clara, where she graduated from with flying colors.
Before choosing her career path as an aesthetician, Amy worked in the restaurant industry and developed a strong passion for people.
WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
Bay Area, California. Born and raised, but my family is from Okinawa, Japan and I am very proud of my heritage.
DO YOU HAVE ANY NICKNAMES?
I don't really have nicknames, but my Japanese name "Emi" means "Smile", and I'm told I do that a lot.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL?
I always liked creative classes in school, but nothing really drove me until I attended the Academy for Salon Professionals in Santa Clara last year to pursue a career in Aesthetics.
WHAT MAKES LIFE AWESOME TO YOU?
God, and every day he gives me. Our faith is what holds my family together even though we are thousands of miles apart (they all live in Okinawa). Starting each day with gratitude makes life awesome to me. Even the hard days.
HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME AN ESTHETICIAN?
I've always worked in restaurants and I love interacting with people, but crazy late night schedules were taking a toll on me. With that my curiosity for taking care of my skin began, but there was too much contradicting information out there, so I decided I wanted to go to school for it and learn the right way. It's also my way of eventually giving back to my mom. She has always been so hardworking and selfless, I would love to pamper her from now on.
WHAT ACCOMPLISHMENT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
Getting through school and getting licensed. It sounds so short and sweet in a few words, but it really was a process and lots of hard work. I was always blessed with everyone around me being so supportive and proud of me.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
I like to be outdoors, running or hiking. Being an Island girl the ocean gives me unspeakable energy. I love spending time with my friends and enjoying a really good bottle of wine. I also love books and movies.
I have an uncanny love for potatoes and hippos. As much as I talk about my mom, my dad is also my best friend and hero, but he drives me crazy.
